Artist's Comments

Hello again!

This was just an experiment-- I tried painting a portrait using only the primaries- red, blue, and yellow. plus the assistance of white. I figure I should be working on my color selection skills, and this might help me out. Maybe.

It started off as a realism portrait of a friend of mine, Rachael, but as it turns out, I fail at drawing from a reference. So I erased the sketchy face and drew this random girl c:

Make-up is fun to paint.

Feel free to crit; I defenitely have a lot of room for improvement.
edit: fixed some things Kan and Barako pointed out : D

PERSONALLY...

i think the main think id add, is just a bit more hair in the upper left corner.. but the amount would be really small.. more so for just adding a more rounded look to the head..

also..i dunno if it was intended or not... but like.. the upper part of the right side of her hair is like.. missing tiny bits.. kinda like you just didnt paint it... the pic has a messy feel, though, so it mightve been intended...

Yay, crits
*eats crits*
nom

Oh yeah, I basically didn't paint the top of her head. that's why I cut that part off of the picture >: D

and.. the.. the hair thing.. yeah.. okay... yeah!

thanks kanny <3

Well, you said you wanted crit, so~

I agree with the hair thing ~Kansaibou said about the head needing to appear more round. Also, the lack of color in the face is a little strange, though I know what you were aiming for, without some light faded color in other parts it looks odd, especially around the nose. The color that you put down looks good, but the top of the nose should have color too even in minimalistic coloring like this, especially since the hair would make it be in a bit of shadow. Same for other parts that the hair covers.

Also, I absolutely love the hair. It looks like an aurora. The shiny bits really make it just that more pretty~
:iconlemaffin:
Thanks a lot, I'll keep that in mind <33

I don't know if I actually want to fix it, though XD

Oh, I understand. It was just a sketchy experiment, right? :3

Just something to think about when you're drawing whatever you draw next.

Also, I demand that you practice drawing boys! Lots of boys! XD
:iconlemaffin:
Hahah, I actually did try drawing a guy today. I wanted to try doing something with a darker theme. Well, I got bored and x-ed out, and it was like "Do you want to save?"
I was like oh wait! cancel! i forgot something!
And accidentally clicked "no"

;_; He was really cute too!

Btw, I went ahead and attempted to fix the picture anyway XD

Awww, that sucks! T_T Ugh, I hate it when that happens...
Also, random question, do you use Photoshop or Painter? :0 -has been curious about Painter-

Oooh, it does look a lot better now. :D And all of the sudden I just noticed how awesome the eye looks. -has a weakness for awesomely drawn eye makeup-
:iconlemaffin:
Well, I use photoshop elements because it came with my tablet.
But I reaaaaally want to get painter. really badly.

Oh, thanks :D I didn't do much either XD

=O I really thought you used Painter!

Ohgosh. I think this means now that I need to practice painting in Photoshop. I'm starting to get kind of bored of solid lines... ^^;

And yup, sometimes a little bit does go a long way! :3
